Our FACES (Families, Academics, Character, Enrichment & Service Learning) of Somerset program  is a 21st Century Learning Center program located in Crisfield, Md., serving more than 60 ‘at risk’ youth during our afterschool program, pre-K to 8th grade.  Our program focuses on improving literacy skills through our evidenced based literacy curriculum I-Ready.  Services are provided Monday – Friday and include academic instruction, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) enrichment activities, homework assistance, character development, community service, recreation, field trips, parent outreach, and a hot meal each day from the Maryland Food Bank.  This program includes assistance for children of incarcerated parents, and Sustainable Somerset healthy eating activities.  99% of our students are minority students, 97% qualify to receive Free and Reduced Meals, and 61% are reading below grade level.  Per our Grantor Performance Indicators, over the last school year we served 78 students, provided 41 evidenced based programming session, 81% met criteria for regular attendance, 32% increased their reading grades by at least 1 letter grade.
